Clip shows ‘attack’ on teenager in city park
ATERRIFYING alleged assault on a 15-year-old boy has been captured on camera after he was seemingly “jumped” by a group in a park in Swansea.
The teenager’s mother, who has asked to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions for her son, told the Western Mail her boy was waiting to meet a friend in a park in Swansea on Wednesday, May 31, when he was approached by a “gang” of boys.
Almost immediately, members of the group hit and kicked him, the mum claims, with some members of the group using what look like makeshift weapons during the attack.
Video footage appears to show several teenagers surrounding the boy and hitting him for several seconds, before someone calls over to the group and they disperse.
The boy’s mum says her son soon attempted to limp home after the ordeal but was approached on his way home by one of the group, who “jumped” him again.
The teenager was later taken to hospital and had to receive medical care for his injuries.
“He had three blows to the head. I couldn’t even look [at the injuries] to his chest and his back, they were so bad [I had to look away]. But he was covered in marks and bruises.
“My son is a bit of a fighter, but he’s not a bully. He struggles to maintain friendships, he’s got some issues,” she added.
“He thought this group wanted to be his friends [but later realised they didn’t]. They could have killed him.”
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “Police in Swansea are investigating an assault upon a 15-year-old boy which happened at around 8pm on Wednesday, May 31, in Ravenhill Park in the Penlan area of Swansea.
“A group of around four boys assaulted the victim, who required hospital treatment for his injuries.
“Anyone with information concerning this incident or who may have witnessed the assault is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 and quote reference 2300 178 382.”
