PERFECT TENBY

- JO RIDOUT Property editor joanne.ridout@walesonline.co.uk

The popular and historic town of Tenby is packed with period properties that each offer a slice of history as well as an addition to the visual feast of colourful facades and mainly Georgian features within its stone walls. A coastal destination in the Pembrokeshire landscape visited by thousands of people every year, the town has a number of streets and rows of terraces that are the absolute gems within its colourful crown.

The location of the terrace of six towering townhouses is astounding, perched on the top of the cliff overlooking Castle Beach, South Beach, and St Catherine’s Island and its distinctive fort. The special spot offers these lucky residents the most captivating sea, sky and coast views that are panoramic, uninterrupted and utterly breathtaking.

The terrace was listed in 1951, amended in 2008, at the higher level of Grade II*, which is only awarded by Cadw to particularly important buildings of more than special interest, and only make up about 7% of the total of listed buildings in Wales.

The reason for this row of townhouses, called Lexden Terrace, being given this higher classification is easy to see for yourself, but the listing explains it is because the properties make up ‘the finest terrace in Tenby.’

Number one in this row of six stunners, St Catherine’s House, can boast five floors of fabulousness, seven bedrooms and a garden terrace built into the cliff-face that is surely one of the most incredible places at a property in Wales to enjoy a sea view, weatherwatch, beach-browse, and enjoy the most mesmerising sunsets.

As only six of these special houses exist, to have the chance to own one is rare, and expensive, with St Catherine’s House placed on the market for £1.8m.

While it is under offer, the estate agent says, with the potential buyer’s knowledge, they have opened a reserve list of interested buyers in case the purchase should fall through.
