Pupil arrested after knife ‘brought onto school premises’

-

A PUPIL has been arrested after a knife was allegedly brought onto school premises.

Parents of pupils at Bishop Gore School in Sketty, Swansea, were left panicked on Monday afternoon after they were notified of the incident.

Officers for South Wales Police arrested a teenage pupil in connection with the alleged incident and the pupil has since been released on bail.

It follows an incident where two teachers and a pupil were stabbed at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, last Wednesday. A teenager was also arrested at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community in Ebbw Vale on Friday on suspicion of making threats, which forced the school to be put into a partial lockdown.

A relative of a pupil at Bishop Gore said the knife was allegedly pulled out by the pupil on the school premises.

“It’s so frightening this is happening in our schools now,” they said. “I felt with how crazy the news has been coming out of schools in recent days that this had to be made public. It’s so worrying.”

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said the force attended the school during Monday afternoon and arrested a teenage pupil on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article.

“We attended Bishop Gore School, Sketty, during the afternoon of Monday, April 29, following a report of an incident that occurred earlier in the day,” they said.

“A teenage pupil was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article on the school premises. They have since been released on bail. Officers have secured the article. Nobody was injured in the incident. The school is open as normal.”

A spokesperson for Bishop Gore School said the incident was dealt with “swiftly”.
