THE Dragons have announced the signing of Wales international Shane Lewis-Hughes from Cardiff.

Lewis-Hughes, who has won three caps for Wales, is equally comfortable at lock as he is in the back row and will add a physical edge to the Dragons pack.

The Dragons are on an aggressive recruitment spree as head coach Dai Flanagan looks to finally put his stamp on the squad.

Lewis-Hughes, who is 6ft 4in and 114kg, joins Moana Pasifika backrower Solomone Funaki and Australian second row Steve Cummins as new additions to the pack, while Waratahs centre Harry Wilson and South African wing Chris Hollis have already been added to the back line.

The Dragons have also succeeded in retaining senior Wales internationals Taine Basham, Aaron Wainwright

and Rio Dyer, who all received significant offers from other clubs.

“Shane is a really physical player, and he gives us a big option at blindside and can also play lock,” said Flanagan.

“He’s a very driven and ambitious player who wants to be the very best at everything he does.

“Shane is extremely competitive and will therefore drive standards in the squad and push others around him to produce their very best form.”

Still only 26, Lewis-Hughes still has plenty to offer and will hope a fresh start at a new club can help force him back into international contention.

“I’m so grateful for the Dragons in giving me this opportunity,” said Lewis-Hughes.

“It’s been a really tough few years with injuries, which has stopped me reaching the levels I know I am capable of.

“Dragons have put faith in me to add value to the club and I can’t wait to get started.

“My desire is to be the best rugby player I can possibly be and there is so much potential at my new club.

“I’m looking forward to adding as much as I can.

“I know there is a huge amount of talent in the back row at Dragons, so I can’t wait to challenge myself in that environment.”
