Array of paintings offers affordable art for all
Paul Keen describes his forthcoming art auction as “an auction of affordable art to suit all tastes and budgets”. With such a variety of great artists in the Westcountry it is no surprise that the evening event will be dominated by contemporary and traditional paintings and prints by many local popular artists such as Brian Pollard, Beryl Cook, Robert Lenkiewicz, Lee Woods and Fred Yates. There will also be new artists including Jill Hudson,
Alan Weston and Arth Lawr.
You can pick up a Lenkiewicz exhibition poster for £30, or an Arth Lawr original at £60 to £80.
There are five paintings by former Plymouth modern artist Lee Woods including a French town scene painted in his typical bright way titled ‘Clemency’ 60x124cm (£200 to £300).
From a group of three early 19th century portraits is a fine pastel painting signed L Mar. Little is known about the artist, but an old hand written note on the back indicates: ‘The Blue Lady by L.Mar, Paris 1825 pupil of Cibot, exhibited ‘Pastel Drawings Exhibition Paris, Salon 1857-1877’. Probably in its original gilt oval frame, the overall size is 66x54cm.
No art sale at these auction rooms is complete without a collection of Lenkiewicz’s work, and this is no exception. One of the works is a mural size 203x210cm painting from the artist’s Project 17, Observations on Local Education, and depicts a classroom at Ilfracombe School (£1,500 to £2,000).
All the lots can now be viewed online at or at the salerooms in Cattedown during the week of the sale which will be on Wednesday, November 14 at 6pm.
