The glowing’s good as Westcountry’s national

- BY MARTIN HESP

Christmas is looming somewhere over the horizon and while the goose might not be getting fat quite yet, there are good reasons to think ahead when it comes to this year’s Yuletide.

Perhaps the jolliest, and certainly the most scenic, of these is the fact that numerous National Trust properties will be holding glittering festive fairs and other events from the end of this month.

A spokesman for the charity told the WMN: “National Trust houses in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset will be brightening up the winter evenings and looking their festive best with glowing illuminations in November and December.

“Historic houses which will be lit up so that visitors can stroll round gardens full of colour include Saltram in Plymouth, Coleton Fishacre near Kingswear, Knightshayes, near Tiverton and Trelissick near Truro,” she added.

Other grand Trust properties in the region will be holding their annual craft fairs and various events linked to Christmas.

“All visits to the National Trust this Christmas contribute to the income and the care of these historically significant sites, as well as the ongoing management of the surrounding countryside and access,” said the spokesman.
