Dream date for fans of the musical

-

Record-breaking musical Les Miserables is returning to Plymouth for the first time in 21 years.

Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of the Boublil and Schönberg show, undisputedly one of the world’s most popular musicals, comes to Theatre Royal Plymouth next year from June 11 to July 6.

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Former convict Jean Valjean is hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole.

When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Sir Mackintosh first conceived this new production in 2009 to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary and it has taken the world by storm since.

Originally touring the UK throughout 2009/10, and concluding with 22 performances at the Barbican, this production was hailed by audiences and critics alike.

It inspired the hugely successful movie version starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne and features new staging inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.

It also features hit songs I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Stars, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, and Master Of The House. Tickets go on sale on November 30 and can be booked online at www.theatreroyal.com or by calling the Theatre Royal Plymouth Box Office on 01752 267222.
