Calling all sheep farmers who have a bit of poetry in their soul
Exmoor sheep farmers are being sought to take part in a unique poetic project, aimed at celebrating the landscape and those working within it.
Poet Adam Horovitz, who published his second book The Soil Never Sleeps earlier this year, is looking to visit two farms this November and in March 2019 at lambing time.
Having followed farmers in Cornwall, Yorkshire, Kent and Wales to compile his previous poetry collection, Mr Horovitz said he is keen to learn how the farmers work with, and in, the landscape of Exmoor and understand their relationship with the animals they farm.
“My hope, in visiting farms on Exmoor, would be namely to spend some time shadowing the farmers as they work, taking notes and talking to them,” he explained. “I’m also perfectly willing to help out, where I can, and where it wouldn’t be an inconvenience to the farmers.”
The project is being funded by the Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA) and the Exmoor Society, with input from the Exmoor Hill Farming Network to source farmers.
