Pupils found with cannabis are excluded

-

Five pupils have been permanently kicked out of a Cornish private school after being found with cannabis.

Truro School said its rules were “clear” as were the outcomes for pupils who broke them. No details of the five youngsters, such as their ages, have been released.

In a message to parents, headmaster Andrew GordonBrown wrote: “While I cannot comment on individual students, I can confirm that following a thorough investigation by the school, five students have been permanently excluded for bringing cannabis on to the school site.

“Truro Schools rules and policies are clear, as are the possible outcomes of breaking them. We are committed to ensuring that these rules are upheld to provide our students with an environment where they can focus on their studies and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.”

Truro School, which has pupils and students from across Cornwall and farther afield and charges £25,000 a year for full boarders and over £13,215 a year for day pupils, is part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust.

After being approached by the WMN, the school sent the same in a statement from Mr Gordon-Brown.

One parent, who did not wish to be named, said the incident was “‘concerning but unsurprising. Drugs were around when I was at school and not much has changed over the years. I think the school have handled it well and hopefully this will be a deterrent to other students.”

The school refused to comment further or say whether the incident has been reported to the police.

In December last year, students from the school bought cannabis and cocaine after breaking their curfew and sneaking out of a hotel during a school trip to Tenerife.
