Horns may lock between private and trade buyers over hall stand

Forward for the first of two December auctions is an impressive Victorian hall stand. The mahogany veneered tree sports 11 Highland cow horns with pewter tips. Horns may lock between trade and private buyers for this entrance hall statement piece, with a mere reserve of £75.

An unusual Welsh Dynas Powis & Ceilingite distemper original enamel signs, are both in royal blue, good condition and carry low £45 reserves. A delightful coffee can has worn antique silvering over Britannia metal. The German WMF piece has a stylish handle and art nouveau decoration, having been found in a box of pewter items including a Chris van de Hoef beaker, 19th century measures and an 18th century King’s shilling tankard bearing a Celtic knot Fast and Firm motif with chair back thumb piece lid. A naive oil-on-board of a bad day at the races depicts a punter leaving with no shoes warrants £40-£80.

A quality solid oak draw leaf table by G Rackstraw of Worcs extends from 4ft 6in to 7ft 6in, which warrants £150-£190, is perfect for the Christmas period, complement­ed by a set of six oak chairs having lightly distressed leather, estimate £100-£150, and an Ipswich oak court cupboard of good proportion­s, which should make £80-£100.
