Sportsman’s spirit flask packs a real punch

PG & R J Pyle’s annual winter catalogued sporting auction is Tuesday, December 4 at 10.30am at The Bridge Auction Rooms, Hatherleig­h.

Among the unusual items is a sportsman’s spirit flask in the form of a shotgun cartridge 4½in in lengh. The brass cap is stamped “Purdey”. Purdeys are the top makers of shotguns renowned throughout the world guide £40-£50.

Also in the shooting section is a superb hand stitched leather cartridge carrying case measuring 16in x 12in with brass protective corners. The interior is fitted with wood and leather compartmen­ts and will hold 250 cartridges. Makers Cogswell & Harrison, another renowned gun smith from New Bond Street London. Guide price £150-£200.

An oil on canvas of an English pointer flushing game in a woodland landscape measuring 18in x 23in and expects £20-£30.

Of the 200 lots of fishing tackle and related items is a hand painted sign titled “Fishing Day”. Guide £40-50.
