Williams: Strong start so important

- WMN REPORTER > Winger Randell Williams says the next few weeks will be ‘immense’

EXETER City winger Randell Williams says the side must start strongly if they are to get back to winning ways today.

The Grecians travel to Walsall’s Bescot Stadium four points off top of the table and with 10 league games to go.

But their bid for promotion has been set back slightly by back-toback 1-1 home draws against Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra.

However, Williams told the club’s website: “The last two games I thought we deserved three points, but nothing is given to you in this league. You have to go out and get it.

“I thought we were the better side against both Crawley and Crewe, but it is what it is – one point apiece isn’t that bad of an option.”

He added: “The start to every game is important. We need to come out strong. We have a very strong squad here so we’ve got no problems in how we will approach the game. Every single game is going to be a tough test for us. Ten games left – these last few months are immense coming up. We can just go out and continue what we do.”

On the plus side, the Grecians have lost only one of the last six. But they were given a fright by Walsalll when the sides met at St James Park in December. City had to fight their way back into the match from three goals down to secure a 3-3 draw.

And City manager Matt Taylor says his players’ attitude today will be crucial.

“We need to go there with the right mentality,” he said.

“We’re in a good place. In terms of the remaining games, we want to win as many as we possibly can and pick up as many points as we can. We need to approach the game with the right mindset. We’ve finished the last two games so strongly that it shows where the group is at mentally.”

He added: “We need to go away and be resolute against a Walsall team with a lot of good players and front men in form. We need to get them on the back foot and utilise the ball really well. We are looking forward to it.

“Everyone starting the game has got to tell themselves they’re not physically low and that they’re at their absolute peak.”

The Grecians boss reported that other than tiring bodies there were few issues with his squad.
