SMALL COPPER

-

THIS is a fast-flying little dynamo of a butterfly, but when it settles to soak up the sun it stops you in your tracks with its glorious bright copper colouring.

Good sightings are something to savour as it is an active species, but when it takes a break from defending territorial air space or feeding, the small copper will frequently bask in clear view. Spread wings reveal deep orange forewings marked with dark square spots and darker hind wings.

This is a species that turns up in a variety of habitats throughout the warmer months, and if you’re lucky you might spot one in the garden.
