club is in the same position - waiting for news.

“I think what will happen is that it will be a crazy once they know the dates because then everyone will be rushing to sign players.

“We are in contact with the agents and potential players who are out of contract.

“Talks are already ongoing but we can’t go for the kill, if you like, just yet until we know the circumstances of when we are going to be playing football.”

Lowe offered new deals to 10 outof-contract Argyle players earlier this summer and eight accepted them.

Player-of-the-year Antoni Sarcevic has opted to leave so he can return to his home in Manchester while Callum McFadzean has yet to make a decision one way or another.

The Pilgrims’ boss can now turn his focus to bringing new players to Home Park.

Lowe said: “We have just completed stage one in terms of the players re-signing. We will move on to stage two.

“I will always tell you that we will keep it in house. I can’t go out and say ‘We will try and do this, and we will try and do that’.

“But I think everyone knows we are trying to build a competitive squad for next season, and that will take time because of all the uncertainty in football at the moment.”

Lowe continued: “We can’t just go all gung-ho and sign a load of players.

“At the end of the day, we have got to wait until we have finally been told when the games are going to start and when there are fans going to be through the door.

“We know Simon Hallett has invested a lot of money so we have to be cautious that we can’t just go and spend money that potentially might not be there.

“But we know what we need. We have been working on recruiting since January - the players we want, the players we have identified, the players we have kept.

“One thing I’m happy about – we have got a squad anyway - we have got 16/17 players if the season was to start next week!

“We will keep looking, we will keep working. The recruitment policy stays the same in terms of what type of player we need.

“We have got one, two and three. We will try for one when we can, and if that doesn’t work we will go two, and if that doesn’t work we will go three.

“Every single one of those players are more than capable of representing Plymouth Argyle and playing in League One.”

He added: “We have got money but we have got to do it the right way.

“From above, right the way down to me and my staff, we will make sure we do it the right way.”
