Ring led the way in successful first post-lockdown sale

-

THE first Antique Sale at the Auction Rooms, Lostwithiel after the lockdown was a resounding success, with online bidders from around the globe adding to our local buyers happily bidding from home. The resulting selling rate and prices were high although the 825 lots took over nine hours to sell.

The top price was £2300 for a quality ring, but there were many surprises on the way; it was a joy to sell the furniture to a muchimproved level. An antique court cupboard with early panelling in a later frame surprised the Auctioneers with a £1250 bid to a London buyer.

Two 19th century oak window benches sold at £640, and a range of mirrors forwarded from the Fowey hall hotel continued to impress a painted gothic design over-mantel mirror achieved £580.

Rare items that are easy to post fetch a premium, a WWII fighter pilots survival knife took off with a £800 bid. An 1820 Cornish seal bottle, though not as old as collectors would like, the Camelford seal helped to achieve a £540 bid.

There is never a bad day in the jewellery cabinet, an 18ct Ceylon sapphire & diamond cluster ring, the central sapphire of approximately 2.6cts doubled expectations at £2300, a pair of 18ct white gold Art Deco design drop earrings with a 1.5ct mix of both brilliant and baguette cut diamonds changed hands at £1500. There were only a couple of watches in this sale, but demand was high an Omega Speedtronic chronograph with a £250-£300 guide made £740, an Omega Seamaster 600 made £560.

The next sale at the Auction Rooms Lostwithiel is scheduled for July 22 and there will be the usual good mix of antique and modern jewellery, more mirrors and lighting from the Fowey Hall Hotel, as well as a range of furniture, paintings and collectables.

The catalogue will be available from next Friday at www.jefferysauctions.co.uk
