Busy online sale saw high prices for watches

-

WE had our busiest online sale on Monday, July 10 with 738 out of 794 lots selling. It was also the first time since lockdown we allowed a limited number of bidders into the room.

We started the sale with a single owner collection of Tin Plate and other toys with 350 lots making just over £26,000 (all prices inc. 21.6% B.P.). 13. A scarce Triang Minic 50ME Rolls Royce Sedanca which sold for £360. But the top price and by far the oldest toy was German 18thC. Coach Carriage (26cm approx) in it’s original wooden box. This sold for £470. There is a similar example in Munich’s National Musuem.

Also dating from the early 18th century a Doll Pin Cushion with painted wooden head and jointed arms, 11.5cm tall sold to a US bidder for £2165.

With three watches making over £2000 the highest price was for a 1970’s Rolex Submariner which sold on the phone for over £10,200.

A 1950’s Rolex Oyster ref. 6098 sold to a Hong Kong commission bid for £4255.

Again, jewellery showed some very strong results with a Victorian Cabochon Sapphire and Old Cut Diamond Crescent Brooch 454 selling to a private London buyer for £3185.

A single owner collection of modern Royal Mint coins sold for over £9000 with the top price held by two lots of Beatrix Potter 50p silver proof coins. Both made £910 despite one having a face value of just £2.50 and the other £2.00!

With our next sale on August 10 having a focus on Maritime & Militaria we expect further record-breaking results. Piers Motley Auctions, Exmouth; 01395 267403; www.piersmotleyauctions.co.uk
