Randell is ahead of the game
PRE-SEASON training could be just around the corner for Plymouth Argyle’s players, but teenage prospect Adam Randell is already at work.
The 19-year-old midfielder has been put through his paces by UEFA A Licence coach Aaron Cusack at the Manadon Sports Hub.
Cusack is the programme lead and senior lecturer in sport coaching and PE at Plymouth Marjon University.
He specialises in one to one, position specific football training and has posted a 55-second video on Twitter of a session with Randell.
It shows the pair of them working at the Manadon Sports Hub, which is the home of the Argyle Community Trust.
Cusack also posted the message: “A great session with @Only1Argyle professionaol Adam Randell - outstanding quality from a top young player with a bright future.”
Randell made a total of three starts and six substitute appearances for the Pilgrims in 2019/20, which was his first season as a professional.
He had caught the eye of Ryan Lowe soon after his appointment as Argyle manager last summer and went on to become a regular in the matchday squad last term.
That meant Randell was not loaned out to a local non-League side, unlike several of the club’s other young professionals.
Randell will hope to use preseason to challenge for a place in Lowe’s side at the start of 2020/21, which could begin on September 12.
An announcement on the start date for next season is expected from the EFL soon.
That would then allow clubs across the EFL to put plans into place for a return to pre-season training soon.
