Are there any real winners with Brexit?

-

TOM Trust rightly states that the referendum ballot paper gave us a binary choice – leave or remain.

For better or for worse the country voted “leave” and leave we have.

Brexit has happened. The leavers have “won”, as they keep reminding us, although it remains to be seen whether there will be any real winners.

The subsequent issue to be decided is not whether we should leave or remain but the nature of the UK/EU relationship post Brexit.

No vote was taken on that, so Mr Trust’s claim that “leavers wish the EU to have no control whatsoever over any aspect of the government of the UK” is no more valid than the views of those who hope for a closer relationship with our neighbours and largest trading partner.

That debate, therefore, continues, much to the obvious chagrin of Stuart Eels who, in the same issue of the WMN, tells “remainers” to “stop trying to change history”.

Unless democracy was suspended after the referendum, the debate on our future relationship with the EU is perfectly legitimate.

Or has free speech been banned in post Brexit Britain? Leavers – you won. Get over it.
