Pubs annonce they are shut until new year after coronavirus tests

-

THREE pubs in the same area of Cornwall have all closed due to coronavirus symptoms or positive tests.

The Red Lion, The Miners Arms and St Agnes Hotel, which are all within the St Agnes village parish, have each announced that they will be closing until the new year.

They were also cancelling Christmas day bookings as a result.

Both The Red Lion, in St Agnes, and The Miners Arms, in Blackwater, confirmed the news in similar statements that revealed both pubs had closed on Monday, December 21, due to members of staff coming into contact with a customer who had experienced symptoms.

It was later confirmed that a test for Covid-19 had come back positive and the doors of both pubs will be closing until January 1 for the safety of staff and customers.

Staff at St Agnes Hotel announced the news of its closure the same day, saying landlord Neal had become “very poorly” and it was now awaiting the result of his Covid test.

It posted on Facebook: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close the pub with immediate effect. Neal has become very poorly and as a precaution we have decided to close whilst we await test results.

“This is a decision that has not been taken lightly and will come at a huge financial cost. Even though

Public Health England have said we can continue to trade we both feel this is not the correct decision and we must put our team and village first.

“We would like to apologise to anyone that has bookings with us over the festive period and will be contacting everyone shortly.

“All bookings for Christmas Day will receive a full refund and we will also create a Christmas Day food parcel for you.”
