Body found in Devon river

THE body of a man has been found in a North Devon river.

Police were called at 12.50pm on Christmas Eve after the body of a man was found in the River Taw at Barnstaple.

Officers and paramedics attended along with HM Coastguard and an RNLI Lifeboat.

The man was recovered from the water by the lifeboat crew.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Formal identification is yet to be carried out and police enquiries continue.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
