Argyle to assess Cooper injury

-

PLYMOUTH Argyle are assessing a knee injury to George Cooper ahead of their League One away game against Charlton Athletic this afternoon.

The 24-year-old was ruled out of the Pilgrims’ 1-0 victory over MK Dons at Home Park last Saturday because of the problem.

He took part in a training session at Harper’s Park on Thursday morning but manager Ryan Lowe admitted he would be cautious with him.

Cooper struggled with the knee injury throughout the 2-1 defeat at Crewe Alexandra on December 15 but he did not want to come off the pitch.

Now, after missing the MK Dons match, Cooper is having his fitness closely monitored before the trip to Charlton.

Lowe said: “To be honest, I did say I wouldn’t talk about injuries didn’t I but it’s Christmas so I will give you this.

“He has got a bit of a knock on his knee. It’s just a precaution more than anything.

“He’s out on the grass today (Christmas Eve) and we will see where he’s at, but we have got to be cautious with it.

“To be fair to the kid he played right through it against Crewe. I said to him ‘Why didn’t you come off?’ and he said ‘I couldn’t’.

“The first half wasn’t great and he didn’t want to come off the pitch. He wanted to try and get us back into the game.

“His bravery and his desire to stay on the pitch and try and get us back into the game was different class.

“I’m just hoping it’s not serious because I would have preferred him to come off the pitch in the first five minutes.

“When you have not had good results you want to stay on the pitch as much as you possibly can, and he did that.

“We have just got to make sure now that it’s nothing too serious,” added the Pilgrims’ boss.

“He’s kicking a ball and he’s running, so that might be okay, but we will monitor him over the next few days.”
