Coastguard team’s callouts up by 33% in 2020

EXMOUTH Coastguard Rescue Team responded to a third more call-outs in 2020 than the previous year. The team said they attended 102 call-outs in 2020, compared with 73 in 2019, a 33% increase.

It described 2020 as a ‘difficult’ year, but reassured the public that its team remains available to help 24/7. Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team’s facebook post read: “It’s been a very difficult year for all and we end this year having attended 102 call-outs compared to last years 73 - a 33% increase on last year.

“Throughout this past year, we were not able to post a lot of our call outs due to the severely distressin­g nature of a number of them. Whatever you or a family member may be facing, the Samaritans are always ready and willing to listen 24/7 and can be contacted in the UK by calling 116 123.

“Rest assured, HM Coastguard along with all the other Emergency services are always on call 24/7, ready to respond in your hour of need.” It concluded: “Stay safe – and remember, if you see anybody in difficulti­es on the cliffs, coastline or at sea, Dial 999 and ask for the coastguard. Happy new year.”
