Not all Leave voters were right wingers

-

I AM probably not the only person who is getting rather bored with CN Westerman’s invective against any thing that he deems to be ‘rightwing’.

Those of us who chose to vote to leave the EU are not all right-wing, Tory voting, ill-educated idiots as he appears to believe.

Far from it Mr Westerman! I would respectfully remind him of the views of some of the true socialist parliamentarians with regard to the EU.

I don’t think that Mr Westerman’s brand of socialism would have sat very comfortably with Tony Benn or Dennis Skinner, who both voiced their opinions of the EU, as indeed did Neil Kinnock (until he jumped on the gravy train of course) and Jeremy Corbyn.

Perhaps Mr Westerman’s brand of socialism is closer to that of the EU loving Blairites?

So I would ask Mr Westerman to curb his rather unpleasant and negative comments about leave voters and accept that – well by the time this letter is printed anyway – we will indeed be out of the EU and many of us will be celebrating.

Britons, Mr Westerman, include all of us and we are all different with differing attitudes.

Your crude attempts to lump everybody into a particular slot – a practice not unknown in China and Russia – will always backfire on you.

The British people are far too complex for you to understand. David JE Williams, Callington
