Exeter City’s match at Barrow called off

-

EXETER City’s League Two trip to Barrow today has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at The Progression Solicitors Stadium.

Plummeting temperatures in the area have left the playing surface frozen and a local referee was called in to carry out an inspection at 1pm today.

Following the inspection, it was subsequently decided that the best course of action would be to postpone the fixture, with temperatures expected to remain close to freezing throughout Friday and in to Saturday.

Given the national guidelines around coronavirus, it was not felt wise for Exeter to travel north with such a low probability of the game being able to go ahead, an Exeter City FC spokesman said.

It is the third successive away game for the Grecians that has been postponed, after the Stevenage trip on December 19 was cancelled due to Covid-19 at the Boro, while the Newport County game on December 29 bit the dust due to a waterlogged pitch.

With the Barrow game having been postponed, City’s next game is now the FA Cup third round tie with Sheffield Wednesday on January 9, and with the Bolton Wanderers game at St James Park on January 12, the Grecians will play six successive games at home

No new date has yet been arranged for the rearranged fixture, with only seven available midweeks left before the end of the season for the Barrow away and the Newport away games to be slotted into.
