THE CREAM OF THE CROP

- BY GILLIAN ADAMS

Now 2020 has reached its close, it’s time to look back at some of the homes that have changed hands. We’ve asked property agents to submit their most notable properties brought to the market and sold in 2020, and we think you’ll agree they are a very fine lot indeed, with more to come in 2021:

The Round House, Shaldon, Devon

This elegant Grade II listed Georgian property was sold on the first day of viewings through Bradleys Estate Agents off a guide price of £2,000,000 and contracts were exchanged within six weeks. The Round House has magnificent panoramic views across the Teign Estuary and out to sea and is located in coastal village of Shaldon. It underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, yet still maintained the character and ambiance of a period property.

This seven-bedroom property, with its versatile configuration, allows it to be used either as one large family home, or as three separate apartments.

Trewinnick Farm, North Cornwall

Lodge & Thomas sold a 221-acre farm for genuine retirement reasons, which is located less than five miles from the North Coast at Porthcothan Bay and Padstow. The farm was immaculately maintained and used for stock and arable production and it was the first time the farm had come on the open market in its history.

The buyers were existing well-established farmers looking to expand their farming enterprise in North Cornwall and bought the farm as a whole. The guide price was £3 million and the farm attracted interest from far and wide, with the sale completing early in 2020.

Dunmore House West, Bradninch

Property agent Robert Williams sold Dunmore House West, Bradninch to a local family who were upsizing and it took a little over a year to complete the first part of the purchase - the main wing itself, with the option to buy the bungalow in place.

The elegant property had a complex history with numerous issues including it being owned by a charity at one point, but each challenge was overcome and the sale completed.

The six-bedroomed property forms the major part of an attractive Victorian ‘manor’ house also benefiting from an attic which was formerly used as a self-contained apartment with external access, now in need of renovation and improvement. Set in gardens, paddock and woodland of roughly five acres, yet within walking distance to the amenities of the town, the house and its situation are as convenient as they are impressive.

Anyone who has holidayed in Salcombe will have noticed this ‘pink house’ across the water, sitting right on the waters edge, owning part of Smalls Beach and also benefitting from a slipway, boathouse, two moorings, together with an annexe and double garage.
