THERE are features on a great white egret that only those with lenses can see when this gracious big bird of the reedbeds flies overhead.

That golden beak and green eyes are the only splashes of colour in this white feathered beauty.

The Somerset Levels is the best place in the country to see ‘great whites’. It was only a few years ago that the birds nested on the levels for the first time in the UK, and now you would be unlucky not to see them gliding over the reeds in their chosen home in Somerset.
