Concerns over waste near G7 site

-

AN eyesore pile of waste near the venue for the G7 Summit in Cornwall has prompted a complaint it has been left for over a month. The pile around 100 metres away from Carbis Bay Hotel contains insulation, tools and other bits of what appears to be rubbish left over from construction work.

Delivery driver Graham Broughton first reported it to Cornwall Council on December 20 but was told that because it is on private land the authority cannot clear it.

He said he was told his complaint was forwarded to the environmental health department but the site remains uncleared.

“It’s an eyesore and will cause more problems if it falls down the hill,” Mr Broughton said, adding that he was concerned it could pollute a nearby stream.

Council waste management services are not able to collect rubbish from private land without consent from the owner. However, environmental health officers are legally allowed to intervene if there is a clear threat to wildlife or local ecology. Cornwall Council has been asked to comment.
