Misery for children affected by our war

-

WE hear a lot on the news about the mental health of our children because of the lockdown and missing out on their friends and education?

Our politicians are doing a lot of hand wringing with parents also voicing grave concerns about the loss of education and their possible long term mental well being?

It is a shame these very same politicians and parents did not voice these same concerns before our American allies and our own forces went into Iraq and bombed the merry hell out of the country destroying the very fabric of society then abandoning them to their fate?

Children’s lives there were totally destroyed, families broken and children became orphans, also losing brothers and sisters and in some cases, their limbs and their sight.

Their childhood and schooling has totally gone thanks to our missiles and bombs.

I would suggest everyone watch “Once upon a time in Iraq” on BBC iPlayer, a heart rending documentary about the people.

It is not political but made up of interviews with young adults that were children when our country declared war upon them.

At times I was brought to tears by their stories, but we are not satisfied with the misery that our country inflicted upon Iraq.

We are supporting another of our governments that sell arms to Saudi Arabia which is doing the same to the innocent who get caught up in the Yemen conflict.

In addition there are the thousands of children in refugee camps whose childhood and schooling has also been destroyed.

I wonder if all these examples of children caught up in conflict will have enough laptops or will be getting mental health treatment?

Most of these conflicts are our doing from politicians and governments that we support or supported.

It seems to me that in the great scheme of things our children have not got it too bad.
