A: "What did you get?" Doug asked, when his sisters came in. "Toffees?"

"Sure." Linda emptied the bag on to the table. "I'm taking a third of them and then two more," she told him. "You may have some if you're lucky."

Chris nodded. "That's right," she said, taking half of what remained and also two toffees. "You didn't pay but you can have the seven that are left."

How many did Linda take?

B: "So that's why you wanted my drawing board," said Sam, finding his son busy in the studio. "Just to draw some different triangles?"

The boy grinned. "They're special, Dad, Heronian triangles," he replied. "Sides and areas all whole numbers of centimetres, and these have areas that are just three-quarters of their perimeters."
