Cluster ring was star of the auction
MICHAEL Bowman’s first sale of the New Year on January 30 was typically upbeat for this time of year.
The star of the day was undoubtedly the certified natural 5.28 carat Ceylon sapphire and diamond cluster ring, which sold just above estimate to an Australian internet bidder for £5,200.
Elsewhere in the sale, a sperm whale tooth bearing an inscription indicating that it had been a gift from the King of Fiji in 1853, was bought by a Hampshire mailing list client for £1,300.
