First sale of year has impressive lots
THE Auction Rooms Lostwithiel will conduct its first sale of 2021 on Wednesday, February 17 after a layoff due to the covid restrictions. Auctioneer Ian Morris felt the time was right to hold an Antique Sale; most buyers are from out of the region and conduct their business remotely as a matter of course.
The sale will include over 300 lots of jewellery, gold and silver items which is easy to ship. Prices will start from around £30 to £5000.
At the top end of the scale a spectacular 18ct white gold diamond line bracelet set 44 brilliant cut diamonds totalling 9.35ct in an articulated bracelet is estimated at £5000-£5500.
If rings are more to your taste a heavy platinum three-stone diamond ring set three old cut diamonds measuring in excess of 2cts is guided at £2800-£3200, or an impressive diamond solitaire ring the transitional brilliant cut diamond of good clarity measuring 1.5cts set in platinum has expectations of £3500-£4000.
Don’t be put off by the high-end jewellery, there are also many lower value lots including lot 474, 10 stone set silver rings with a guide of £30-£40.
There will also be a good selection of gold and silver pocket watches on offer, a more modern watch a Seiko Pepsi Cola gent’s wrist watch could be yours for £300-£350.
A group of silver aviation trophy cups will hopefully ‘fly’ in the sale. From a local vendor the cups were from the Northampton and Brooklands flying clubs, the most impressive is the “Ted Jones Trophy” the 39cm high trophy of winged triangular form with a finial of the world to the top made by Elkington @ Co, engraved The Brooklands Aero club, Brooklands School of Flying and Northampton Aero Club, it was presented for the ‘Most Meritorious Navigational Performance of the year’ the trophy weighing over 1500 grams is certainly a one off and is guided at £1000-£1500.
The sale starts at 10am with the pottery and ceramics lot 1, an attractive Moorcroft Iris patterned vase 10” (30cms) which will set the ball rolling with expectations of £100-£150.
An early Michael Cardew Winchcombe studio pottery vase with four lug handles, stands 14.5” (36cms) the impressive 1935 vase has expectations of £800-£1000.
A set of three Cornish reference books by Sir John Maclean ‘The Parochial and Family History of the Deanery of Trigg Minor, in the County of Cornwall’ should create local interest at £250-£400.
Due to the present restrictions, all lots can be seen online and the sale will be conducted online at www.jefferysauctions.co.uk or via easyliveauction.com - no viewing at the auction rooms is permitted. Purchases can be collected on a click and collect basis.
