Years ago before social media almost all trades advertised with colourful enamel signs. With production of modern plastic signs the demand for expensive enamels died out. They are now collectible and generally speaking the larger the amount of different colours the greater the price. An enamel sign from a Bideford deceased estate measures 20” x 30” and promotes Brook Bond tea, guide £70-100.
A Victorian cast iron doorstop in the form of Mrs Punch holding baby Punch is a joyous reminder of our seaside holidays, guide £20-30. Lot 154 is a Victorian flat-sided copper kettle which would fit beside the furnace doors of a steam locomotive or traction engine to provide the coal stoker with a hot drink, guide £40-50.
