Artworks will brighten walls
AS spring approaches and the weather improves we may look towards decorating our homes; often paintings can make such an impact on a room particularly those of strong colour or imagery.
Browsing the online catalogue for the next contemporary art auction in Plymouth the we have spotted a number of affordable artworks that would bring interest and colour to most homes.
An added bonus is that the three works are all by Plymouth artists.
Simply titled ‘A Farm Cat, 2020’ Arth Lawr’s, acrylic round painting has an American flavour to it. It measures 30cm diameter and has been painted by Arth especially for the auction. He is a member of The Association of British Naïve Artists and has priced this work at just £150 to £200.
With a similar price guide is an original glass work, titled ‘Plymouth Barbican’ this has been consigned by Lou C glass, the boats are aptly named! Louise is a local glass artist and is a member of the Plymouth Colour Collective and her work is regularly featured at these Plymouth sales.
No auction is complete without a work by Plymouth great Beryl Cook, and her ‘Dancing On The Bar’, signed print is so humorous and eye catching that it could easily sell for over £200.
Moving to West Cornwall we spotted an original work by Gill Watkiss (British, b. 1938) titled ‘The Playing Field, Pendeen’, 34cm x 49cm.
Sales of these paintings have been high lately at £1500 to £2000 this may prove to be a good investment.
The auction take place on March 24 at Plymouth Auction Rooms and all the lots can be viewed at plymouthauctions.co.uk.
