THERE are at least 20 heritage railways, narrow gauge lines, steams centres and museums that use coal.

Cornwall – Bodmin & Wenford Railway, Lappa Valley Railway, Launceston Steam Railway, Helston Railway.

Devon – Plym Valley Railway, South Devon Railway, Dartmouth Steam Railway, Beer Heights Railway (Pecorama), Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, Coldharbou­r Mill, Devon Railway Centre, Dartmoor Railway.

Somerset – West Somerset

Railway, East Somerset Railway, Somerset & Dorset (Midsomer Norton), Longleat Gardens, Yeovil Junction.

Dorset – Swanage Railway, Great Dorset Steam Fair, Somerset & Dorset (Shillingst­one), Gartell Light Railway (Templecomb­e).

Lovers of steam power are being urged to write to their local MP and ask them to join the campaign to maintain a source of top quality British coal to keep the trains and other engines running.
