So many wonderful memories of team
RECENT letters made me think of my football team, Bristol Rovers. My father took me to watch my first Rovers match in the spring of 1956. I’ve been a Bristol Rovers supporter ever since and yearn for the day we can go back and watch them again!
I have so many memories of great players and great friends made – now sadly, with the march of time, quite a few have passed on – and of the great matches we have enjoyed.
But also of the sadness, first at losing our stadium and, I have to admit, crying like a baby after the Rovers match where we lost our League status – and yet drunk as a Lord when up we came back into the League via Wembley, and then incredibly, the next season, going up again under the manager I regard as among our greatest managers, Darrell Clarke.
I hope that the Rovers supporters will be fair and give Joey Barton the chance to become a Rovers legend as well and that I get to see it. Stuart Eels
