Don’t decry advance of technology
I ACKNOWLEDGE that E Hawken has the right to her point of view. I totally dispute, however, that we have experienced a “disgraceful education system” since 1939/45.
My own two children – now very competent adults who achieved either a Doctorship in Maths/ Physics, or the other a Master Degree in Art, did not emerge via the elite educational colleges, but via hard work through secondary and thence universities.
Naturally computers were part of that educational process and were embraced as a learning tool. One cannot uninvent a computer, or the wheel, or numerous branches of science or medicine.
There will always be a requirement for the grass roots industries to provide essential produce – but don’t decry the advance of technology Elizabeth, because your farmer friends are driving equipment incorporating hightec computerisation... it’s not all haystacks and wheat sheafs any more, is it?
