High prices produced across all collectables

-

OVER 500 hopeful bidders registered for Eldreds sale of collectors’ items on Tuesday, April 27 across all three bidding platforms and a host of telephone lines, producing high prices across the broad range of collectables ranging from toys through books, stamps and coins to medals, militaria and vintage costume.

Brought into Eldreds’ auction rooms by a close relative, was a fascinating collection of diary, photographs and cuttings regarding Edward Arthur Harbord RN who served as first officer alongside Ernest Shackleton on his second expedition to Antarctica in 1907.

Anything to do with Ernest Shackleton will always attract a lot of interest and this lot certainly did not disappoint, making £4000.

A large collection of Rupert the Bear annuals, figurines and stuffed toys totalled over £4,500, with the highest price of £250 being for a first edition of Mary Tourtel’s “The Adventures of Rupert, the Little Lost Bear”, the very first Rupert book.

In the stamp section a single Chinese 1980 Year of the Monkey stamp made £520 and ten beautifully hand painted envelopes, each with 1d lilac Queen Victoria stamp made £280.

As usual, the sale had a huge collection of model railway which, collectively, amassed nearly £12,000 with top prices being paid for items in good condition and boxed, the more recent models now selling better than the older Hornby Dublo.

Eldreds is now gearing up for their next sale of collectors’ items in July. To consign items please phone
