Ceramics influenced by natural landscapes

-

CERAMICS from one of Britain’s most prolific and distinctive potters, Alan Wallwork, are due to come up for auction in Eldreds quarterly sale of fine art, furniture, ceramics, silver and jewellery on Tuesday, May 25. Heavily influenced by natural forms and the landscape, Alan Wallwork used texture and colour, different clays and a variety of techniques to create highly expressive sculptural pieces, exhibited widely and purchased by various museums, including the Victoria & Albert and the Kyoto Museum in Japan.

Based for much of his life in Dorset, Alan’s ceramics combine the bleached and weathered surfaces of the seashore with sensuous forms of seeds, fossils, fruits and shells.

Other ceramics in the sale include a fabulous set of four 18th century Meissen vases decorated with flowers, foliage and fruit, which expects £1,800-£2,200. From the same country house source comes a pair of 19th century Meissen three-branch candelabra, estimated at £600-£800.
