TRAIN drivers are needed in Devon and it’s not just the passenger options that are first class – the salary is too.

Great Western Railway are looking to create a talent pool of drivers who are committed to making sure passengers get a “relaxing, fast, efficient, friendly, fun, special experience”.

The salary for drivers based at Exeter Depot will give the successful candidate a very generous £54,111 for the first 12 months, rising to £60,124 – all whilst driving through some of the UK’s most appealing countryside.

Reportedly, the salary is for a 35-hour week. The starting salary has gone up by £4,111 since last year, when the salary was £51,000.

GWR owners First Group is offering a pay rise of several thousand pounds as it looks to create a talent pool of qualified drivers to help GWR set a new standard for rail in the 21st century.

Benefits of the job include free rail travel across the GWR network for the staff and their families, a competitive pension scheme, and a companysponsored health care plan.

In a statement on their website, a spokesperson for GWR said: “You will need to work a variety of shifts and must live within an hour’s travel of the depot you apply for.

“In return, we offer a competitive pension scheme, free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family, a company sponsored health care plan and much more, from our colleague benefit scheme.

“At GWR, our vision for inclusion and diversity is: “We are progressive. We are one family. We are inclusive. First time, every time.

“Valuing our differences such as age, gender, LGBTQ+, ethnicity, religion, and disability, means that our colleagues have a voice and are supported to be their authentic selves at work.

“GWR celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all our employees.”
