Sale of 500 lots is full of treasures
THE Jewellery, Watches, Silver & Objets d’art Sale at David Lay’s at the end of the month signals a momentous return to normality for the Penzance auctioneers, who have adapted and made huge changes and improvements to their operations during the last 18 months.
“Bidding will be allowed in the room again and although numbers will be limited it is exciting to welcome clients back,” David Lay said.
Those who can’t be there can bid via three different online platforms – theSaleroom.com and Easylive, plus on Lay’s own website.
The sale contains some fabulous watches, particularly if your wallet runs to highly collectable Rolex and Omegas, but the 500-lot sale is full of
treasures and as you can also view in person, by appointment.
Highlights include a stunning three-carat blue diamond ring. Not for the faint hearted (this ring carries an estimate of £30,000-40,000) but
18th and 19th century miniatures
rare bobby dazzlers don’t come much better than this. A large oval Ceylon sapphire and diamond ring, which has echoes of Princess Diana’s engagement ring, is another beauty to admire. The sale carries a real mix of quality antique, revivalist and contemporary pieces, including Tiffany and Chanel jewellery.
Lay’s next Collectables Sale, a timed auction ending on October 14 has a stupendous collection of rare gold coins from the Michael Trethewey Estate, which Lay’s have been handling over several sales. This sale has dozens of fascinating 18th and 19th century portrait miniatures from Trethewey plus many good pieces of silver. The illustrated catalogue can be viewed online at
