An eclectic mix

INCLUDED in Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood’s two-day Sporting & Collectors’ sale are the usual eclectic mixture of lots.

For the budding cabinet maker or furniture restorer, there is a wonderful range of wood working tools including Tenon saws, cross-cut saws, smoothing planes, jack planes and moulding planes, not to mention braces, spoke shaves and clamps. Estimates range from £40 up to £200 for some tools, everything you need to get started.

For the steam enthusiast­s, there is a well-engineered Victorian brass scale model of a 12hp beam engine by Archibald Moor of Edinburgh, dated 1847, which is expected to realise in the region of £1,500-2,500. On a similar note is 3/4inch scale Sentinel DG6 live steam lorry fitted for radio control estimated at £500-600.

Contained in the vinyl records section are some very rare Blues and Jazz records, including such artists as Muddy Waters, Art Blakey, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Lead Belly and others. An early issue of Blue Train by John Coltrane is estimated at £200£300.

If music isn’t your bag then there is always the toy section, with diecasts, trains, dolls, constructi­on kits and action figures. Now’s your chance to own an 0 gauge Hornby 4-4-2 tank locomotive in Great Western Railway green livery, which is expected to realise between £60-80.

In the textile and clothing section, there is a superb Georgian gentleman’s waistcoat in cream and coloured silks, with rows of embroidere­d floral and foliate details with purple edge trim; the estimate is £100-200.

There really is something for every type of collector, with medals, coins, weapons fishing tackle also included in the sale. It really has to be viewed either online or at the auction rooms in Exeter.
