Last auction of summer

-

CLARKS’ summer programme comes to an end with a sale packed with variety. An oak monk’s bench kicks off proceedings on Thursday with a guide of £50-60 while an impressive pine settle with storage asks £80-100. An early 19th century elm Windsor chair goes on offer at £100-150 whilst another piece of period furniture, an 18th century carved oak box with phoenix decor, asks the same.

A decorative c.1900 mahogany chiffonier with mirror and drawer in good, clean condition isn’t a lot of money at £100-150 and an Edwardian mahogany corner chair would make a great addition to any bedroom at £30-40. An 18/19th century rosewood commode (£100150), a Victorian pitch pine wardrobe (£100150) and a very attractive Victorian stripped pine washstand with tiled back (£50-60) are other pieces furnishers and decorators may find appealing.

There is a plethora of mixed collectables but one area on the rise is stoneware bottles. Whilst the ginger beers remain the most popular, there remains a market for the larger decorative flagons.

A large Webb’s Hotel, Liskeard asks £60-80 and there are numerous other flagons including Liskeard, Plymouth, Callington, Bristol and Exeter with prices from £20.

Silver and jewellery remains very popular online. A 19th century silver Austrian casket with a bird finial asks £200-300 while a silver goblet is under the hammer at £30-40. A very pretty antique 15ct gold necklace set with aquamarine and seed pearl asks £300-500 and a suffragette necklace and pendant set with peridot, pearl and amethyst asks £100-200. A five stone, 18ct gold old cut diamond ring of approx. 1ct (£600-800), a platinum diamond ring of approx. 0.75ct (£600-800) and a substantial charm bracelet (£1200-1500) also go under the hammer on Thursday.
