Amber’s fight to be streamed worldwide
AYOUNG Cornish fighter is all set to lace up her gloves to show what she can do in front of a global audience.
Cornwall’s WBC Muay Thai champion Amber Kitchen, owner of Touchgloves Gym in Hayle, will today compete in arguably the biggest Muay Thai event in the history of the sport.
Amber, 23, represents Cornwall as part of a strong UK team and has trained for 10 weeks, three times per day for the bout in Singapore, in which she will wear 4-oz gloves for the first time in her career, allowing no room for error.
The event hosted by One Championship rivals UFC will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime for the first time ever in Muay Thai history.
Amber said: “MMA (mixed martial arts) gloves are a game changer. Not only do I have eight weapons to work with, but the blows given and taken when wearing the small gloves are another level with a probability of a knockout happening.”
Amber will travel to Singapore to face Diandra Martin from Australia. Amber added: “I am very excited to be the first English/Cornish female to go down in the One Championship history books. The fight card is boasted to be one of the most exciting line-ups with top names matching each other, including Liam Harrison and Jonathan Haggerty from the UK.”
Amber has recently returned from her kick start training camp in Superpro Samui, Koh Samui, Thailand, and follows her training up in Touchgloves Gym before heading off for her 17-hour journey to Singapore with cornerman Edan Regan.
She said: “To return to a fight camp after such a long break because of Covid, I have embraced the demanding schedule mentally and physically, I have never felt so focused and hungry for a fight.”
With a seven-hour time difference in Singapore and the fight scheduled to cater for a US TV audience, Amber’s fight will take place 1am UK time on Saturday. It can be watched live on YouTube or Facebook under the One Championship channel.
