Over 1,300 lots at two-day auction
THE Truro Auction Centre will hold its next specialised two-day Collectors Sale on September 8 and 9, 2022 which is probably one of the largest auctions conducted by the central Cornwall auctioneers. In-depth knowledge of the collectables market certainly attracts collections and accumulations of collectables and this auction offers some 1,300 lots over the two days.
Probably the most impressive section is the coin section with 100 gold coins going under the hammer. Some of the more interesting items in this section is a Victorian 1887 gold £5 piece in excellent condition expecting £1,500 to £2,000.
Numerous silver coin sets will certainly attract interest including the 18-piece crown set commemorating the Victoria Cross 1856 to 2006.
Military items are always featured heavily in every Collectors Sale and this auction is definately the case. A fine pair of 19th century cased percussion belt pistols by Westley Richards of London in simply wonderful condition with numerous accessories expect £2,500 to £4,000. A large collection of air rifles feature on September 9 and includes a rare .22 Webley Service air rifle MKII in excellent condition expecting £250 to £400.
Railway memorabilia will attract wide interest including the 1977 limited copy of a brass and metal locomotive name place for The City of Truro locomotive. This local engine is well known in the Westcountry and this full size name plate should sell for between £1,000 and £1,500.
An unusual item dating from the 1960/70’s is the Victorinox Swiss Army knife electric shop display with moving blades measuring some 23” high in its original transit box.
Within the book section various modern first editions are at a premium at present. Ian Fleming’s Live and Let Die being a first edition for 1954 with its original dust-jacket expects £800 to £1,200.
