Tributes from West for Her Majesty
WESTCOUNTRY MPs and councillors have paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen on her passing.
They described the Queen as “an incredible figure who shall forever be remembered”.
Selaine Saxby, Conservative MP for North Devon, retweeted the Royal Family’s twitter announcement of the Queen’s passing. She added: “Rest in peace Your Majesty. And thank you for your unwavering service. You will be greatly missed. God save the King.”
Richard Foord, Liberal Democrat MP for Tiverton and Honiton, said: “She embodied the very best of Britain, selflessly devoting herself to serving the people of our proud country without respite or complaint until the very end.”
Torbay MP Kevin Foster added: “Her Majesty’s reign was exceptional not just for its unprecedented length, but for the depth of commitment to our nation she showed throughout. My thoughts and prayers are with the King and his family at this difficult time.”
In a video statement, the chairman of Devon County Council, Cllr Ian Hall, said: “I send our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. Her Majesty the Queen visited Devon on many occasions since meeting for the first time Prince Philip at the Royal Naval College in Devon.”
Cornwall Council Conservative group leader Linda Taylor said: “The loss of our Queen, Elizabeth II, is one that is felt in Cornwall, Great Britain, the Commonwealth and around the world. Our Queen although small in stature, was a global colossus by reputation, a bright beacon among heads of state internationally, offering a lifetime of service to her grateful nation.”
Steve Double, MP for St Austell and Newquay, was among the first to pay tribute to her Majesty. He said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty the Queen. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. We will now observe a period of national mourning to show our respects and honour her life of service to our country.”
Former Defra Secretary of State George Eustice, MP for Camborne and Redruth said: “My thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty the King, His Royal Highness Prince William, who now becomes the Duke of Cornwall, and the wider family.”
The Isles of Scilly sent its own tribute saying her death, “brings great sorrow to us all. Such a wonderful person with great humility – she will be missed worldwide.“
