ELDREDS sale of antique and later furniture, art, ceramics, glass, silver and jewellery takes place on Tuesday, September 13 at 10am.
Collectors of advertising items will be interested in a large collection of smoker’s accessories in the sale, including many lots of advertising and novelty ashtrays, matchbox holders, mirrors, clocks and the like. With examples from Victorian to Art Deco in wood, ceramic, brass and Bakelite and advertising newspapers, hotels, alcohol, cars and of course tobacco, the collection is divided into seventeen lots with estimates beginning at £20-30.
Those who appreciate modern stylish design may be interested in a lot of items designed by Viscount David Linley, comprising a pair of turned wood tea light holders and a similar set of coasters, each with inset metal disc signed Linley. Also included in the lot is a pair of Linley Martini glasses in the Trafalgar design, estimate £40-60.
An unusual lot is a brass mechanical orrery demonstrating the movement of the earth and moon around the sun and another, also mechanical, of the solar system. Two illuminated globes, one terrestrial and the other a German lithographed tinplate celestial globe are fun and educational for a child’s bedroom.
A mid-20th century Continental dark wood secretaire has a plain exterior hiding a stylish interior with desk surface and drawers of contrasting veneers and turned handles, estimated at a modest £40-60. Several lots of smaller items including silver, watches and jewellery will complete the sale.
