Signed Royal portraits appeal
TWO royal portrait photographs signed by the late Queen and Prince Philip respectively and dated 1953 are offered for sale at Michael Bowman’s 2pm auction taking place at Chudleigh Town Hall today.
Also in the sale is a collection of early postcards depicting views of Teignmouth, which will be offered in 11 lots with various estimates. Many serve as photographic records of life in Devon during the first decades of the 20th century. Flooding to the shopping streets in 1924 and damage to the sea wall depict themes familiar to us today. Lifeboat Day in 1909, shows Teignmouth beach packed to capacity. Estimates range from £80 to £200.
A Victorian Temperance Movement porcelain loving cup relates to Bovey Tracey, with it’s inscription ‘Presented to Mr Richard W. Row by the members
of the Bovey Tracey Total Abstinence Society.’ The front is painted with two figures, one ‘Drunk,’ the other ‘Sober.’ Despite a crack to one side, bids of £300-£450 are anticipated.
A collection of good watches includes Rolex Daytona, Sea-Dweller and GMT-Master, and also features a 1960s boxed Jaeger LeCoultre Deep Sea Master Mariner with original paperwork. There is also a lady’s stainless steel Rolex Oyster Datejust with diamond dot dial.
The jewellery section includes two certified natural Ceylon sapphire and diamond cluster rings and also offers a boxed pair of 14ct gold Cartier cufflinks with sapphire end-stones.
The sale is on view from 10.30am until the 2pm start.
