Busy auction has plenty of appealing items
IT’S been a busy week at the saleroom as Plymouth Auction Rooms prepares for the biggest auction of the year. There are some fascinating items and the catalogue is bursting with collections of fine silver, Moorcroft pottery, over 100 lots of jewellery and gold, glassware, medals, watches, antique furniture and much, much more.
One of the headline lots in the antiques and collectables auction on Tuesday, December 6 is one of the most sought-after Corgi Toy gift sets. Coming to auction after 40 years in the attic with the rest of a prized lifetime collection of diecast models, the Rallye Monte Carlo set comes in the original packaging and is expected to sell for £700-£1000.
Amongst the collection are some absolute gems. A rocket-firing Batmobile, a gun-firing ‘Thrush-buster’ and James Bond’s Aston Martin D.B.5 are sure to attract interest from keen collectors.
Another high roller is a Mexico gold 50 Pesos 1943 commemorative issue coin, celebrating the 100th anniversary of its independence from Spain. This type of coin was minted with dates from 1921 through 1947 however, the 1943 coin omitted the denomination. Weighing 41.66 grams, the coin depicts the angel of independence statue representing ‘Winged Victory’. She is shown holding a laurel crown symbolising victory, and a broken chain symbolising freedom. This coin will attract plenty of interest from local and worldwide online bidders and no doubt raise £800 - £1200 for the delighted owner.
There are also collections of paintings and prints, antique boxes, sculptures, bronzes, Asian art and even scientific instruments. This 500-lot auction will round off a busy year at Plymouth Auction Rooms. The sale will take place at 10.30am on Tuesday, December 6. All lots can be viewed online at plymouthauctions.co.uk.
