Truro swoop for strike ace Oppong

TRURO City have announced the loan signing of striker Colin Oppong from League Two side Salford City.

The 20-year-old forward joins the White Tigers on an initial 28-day loan deal from the Greater Manchester-based club.

The former Ipswich Town starlet joined Salford in the summer and has already had a loan spell with Boston United in the National League North this season.

He will link up with Salford team-mate Adam Porter, who is also on loan with the White Tigers.

Truro already have one of the most feared strike forces in the division. Tyler Harvey is the league’s top goalscorer this campaign with 19, while Rocky Neal has 10.

Oppong goes straight into the White Togers’ squad for their Southern League Premier Division clash with Harrow Borough today.

Truro suffered their first defeat of the league season last week when they went down 3-1 at Chesham United, but Westonsuper-Mare;s shock defeat at Beaconsfield Town meant they did not lose any ground at the top of the table.

Truro are still in second place and two points behond Weston with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Plymouth Parkway’s clash with Hanwell Town today has been brought forward to a 1.30pm kick-off.

Parkway were furious that the Middlesex-based club would not co-operate with them when they asked to put the kick-off time back to 3pm.

Until yesterday, Hanwell had ignored all correspondence meaning Parkway were due to set off at 5.45am for a lunchtime kickoff.

While the new kick-off time will mean a later start for Lee Hobbs and co, it still means an early departure from Plymouth.

The game had been moved by the Southern League to 12.30pm due to the prospect of a potential England last 16 clash at the World Cup in Qatar. However, the Three Lions topped their group meaning they will play Senegal tomorrow at 7pm.
