Artists to draw on great gardens for inspiration

An exclusive collection of work will be auctioned in aid of the Cornwall Community Foundation

-

THE Great Gardens of Cornwall, a collection of the bestknown, largest, most historically and horticulturally important gardens in the county, is collaborating with local artists in a bid to raise money for the Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF).

Nine artists will base themselves at a garden each to draw inspiration and create a visual representation of what spring means to them.

The exclusive collection of work will be exhibited for one week at Lemon Street Market in Truro before being auctioned on June 20, with all money raised going to the worthy cause.

The local artists include Lizzie Black, Andrew Tozer, Rob Rimmington, Nicky Walker, Mary Jago, Kate Cambridge, Lorna Tremayne, Susan Nathan and Carol O’Toole. Each artist will draw from their unique styles, using various formats to recreate the individual vistas.

The stunning gardens in the group are Antony Woodland Gardens, Bonython Estate Gardens, Caerhays Castle Spring Gardens, the Eden Project, Lamorran Gardens, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trebah Garden, Tregothnan, Tregrehan Garden, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Trewidden, Tresco Abbey Garden, and Trewithen.

Charles Williams, chair of The

Great Gardens of Cornwall, said: “Each garden in our collection is a space where visitors can connect with nature, nurture their mental health and support their wellbeing, pillars that are also reflected in the vision of CCF.

“Each garden is so different, especially as the seasons change, and we’re excited to see what the artists make of each environment.

“Thanks have to go to the wonderful artists for giving up their time to support this initiative. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the masterpieces on show in June, and to raise much needed funds for this incredible cause.”

The CCF will use the money raised to fund small grants to grassroots, front line, volunteer-led organisations

making a positive impact in their area. The money helps to overcome challenges of disadvantage, exclusion and poverty, for all ages.

“The money raised goes towards some incredible projects across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and we’re truly thankful to everyone that supports our cause, especially to the artists who have given their time and creativity to help make positive impacts in the county.” added CCF chief executive Tamas Haydu.

The exhibition will be on show at Lemon Street Market, Truro, from June 13 for one week, with the charity auction in aid of the foundation to be held at the market on June 20.
